One of the great advantages to making e-books available over the internet is that our stories are able to reach women living in areas where there are no women's bookstores. Perhaps
more importantly, we are able to provide a safe and private shopping environment to the many lesbians who may not yet be out of the closet -- and to young women who may be questioning their sexual
orientations -- and who may be uncomfortable buying lesbian-related titles in a public bookstore. Unlike the larger online book retailers, we do not track what our customers purchase nor do we
share their buying preferences with other companies.
ArtemisPress was launched in December of 2000 for the publication and promotion of fiction and nonfiction works of interest to the international women's community, with an emphasis on
lesbian-centered and feminist stories and biographies that illustrate the strength of our community. At a time when hate crimes against homosexuals are on the rise, and gay/lesbian youth are
committing suicide in record numbers, we believe there is a strong need for such stories to be heard, especially in the new medium of electronic books.
The management and staff of ArtemisPress represent a diverse combination of experienced talent from both the print and online publishing worlds. We also have a strong understanding of
the Internet, and the special demands it places upon an electronic publisher seeking to publish and promote titles to an international online audience. With backgrounds in journalism, magazine
production, trade publication, writing, editing, desktop publishing, web design and development, and online marketing and promotion, our staff is able to provide authors with a level and quality of
